Half-Term in London

Half-term means the kids are free from school for the week and parents find themselves looking for ways to keep them occupied. London is a great place to visit with the family. There is so much for kids and adults alike to see and do. Even if you’re a Londoner, the city always seems to have something new to offer. But how do you make sure that your precious time in London isn’t wasted? Well, Tube Map has a few tricks up its sleeve to ensure your journeys in London go smoothly. Simply follow these top tips…

Visit tourist spots

This half-term you might be taking the kids to the Natural History Museum, going on the London Eye with your partner or taking the whole family to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. Wherever you’re going this half-term, did you know that in Tube Map you can search for tourist attractions and landmarks when planning a journey? You don’t need to find the nearest station first, you can just route where you need to go. half-term-01

Visit not-so-touristy spots

Maybe you’ve done all the tourist stuff or maybe you have a booking at a restaurant for the evening. For places that aren’t a major landmark, you can type in the address and postcode and Tube Map will get you there. half-term-03

Walk London’s streets

The Tube Map can be a little deceptive at times, stations that seem like they would be really far from each other can actually be in easy walking distance. For some journeys, even TfL recommends walking (especially between Covent Garden and Leicester Square). Walking also has the added benefit of letting you see more of the city. Not everything London has to offer can be found on a tourist map. By walking above ground you have the opportunity to take in the sights and experience London’s streets and we can think of no better way to spend your half-term. So how can Tube Map help if you want to walk? By offering a walking option! Plan a journey and there is a walking suggestion in the route results. Tap on this to see the route on a street map. For more handy walking advice there is also TfL’s walking Tube Map. half-term-08

Stay out late

The kids are at a sleepover and you’re out for the evening. Maybe you’ve been to the theatre or had a late meal and then there’s a nagging sense that you better check the last tube back. But then you remember, it’s Friday! The Night Tube runs on Friday and Saturday nights and runs on quite a large number of stations. To see which ones, Tube Map has a Night Map, just tap to select it from the main map screen. If you need to plan a journey, Tube Map also has a Night option. Turn this on and Tube Map will filter routes available on the Night Tube. half-term-02

Travel with a baby buggy

Travelling with family this half-term might mean you have different accessibility requirements. Whether you’re travelling with prams or wheelchairs, it’s important to know the accessibility of Tube stations. If you’ve got Tube Map on Android* then you already have access to tons of information about accessibility on the Tube. Just tap on a station, then head to ‘Accessibility and Maps’. Here you’ll find ratings for each platform, helping you to make smarter decisions about platforms to use and stations to avoid.

Avoid delays

Don’t let a delayed Tube train ruin the half-term holidays. If you’re ambling around a museum, the last thing you want to be doing is obsessively checking the Line Status. If you set up notifications for the lines you will be using, then the app will let you know what you need to know when you need it. If something goes wrong on one of the lines, Tube Map will send you an alert. half-term-06   Tube Map is the ideal app for getting around London and we hope we’ve helped you get the most out of the London Underground app. If you don’t already have Tube Map you can download it for FREE using the buttons below. download-tube-map-free app-store-ios app-store-android
