Back in September 2014 the Night Tube start date was scheduled for September 2015 and a Night Tube London Underground Map was designed (see below). Unfortunately this never went ahead and what followed was nearly of year of uncertainty. With each headline and tweet our hopes have been raised or dashed as the Night Tube never quite managed to get off the ground.
Today we finally have an actual, real confirmation. New London Mayor Sadiq Khan, has announced a start date for the Night Tube of 19th of August.
Once all 5 lines are up and running, this is where the trains will run to after 00:30.
Central Line: Ealing Broadway to Loughton/ Hainault
Victoria Line: The entire line
Jubilee Line: The entire line
Northern Line: Service won’t run on Mill Hill East and Bank branches
Piccadilly Line: Cockfosters to Heathrow Terminal 5
So what does this mean for the London Underground Map and our Tube Map app? Well, we can’t give away too much but this time last year we have something pretty special planned, so make sure you’re following us on Twitter or Facebook where we’ll be making our big reveals!

“I have made getting the Night Tube up and running a priority, and London Underground has now confirmed that services on the first two lines will launch on 19 August.” “The Night Tube is absolutely vital to my plans to support and grow London’s night time economy – creating more jobs and opportunities for all Londoners…” Sadiq Khan, London Mayor. The Night Tube is expected to boost London’s economy by £360m and provide 2,000 new jobs. And it means getting one step closer to being like other global cities such as New York and Berlin, which already have metro night services.
TfL chief Mike Brown said, “More than half a million people use the Tube after 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and the introduction of the Night Tube, which will support London’s businesses and jobs, is a historic step in our modernisation of the Underground and our work to support London’s economic growth.”The first phase of the Night Tube will be a 24-hour service on the Central and Victoria lines on Friday and Saturday nights. There will be 6 trains every hour through central London between 00:30 and 05:30. The Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines will start their 24-hour service in the Autumn. Or at least, that’s the plan at the moment. BBC correspondent Tom Edwards has noted that there are still “unresolved issues” with staff from the RMT which has the potential to cause delays on these lines.
