Mapway has some interesting facts and figures about the planned Night Service for London Underground, and the areas of London it will serve.

When the Night Tube launches there are a lot of people who are going to miss out because of the restricted service. 2,167,900 of London’s 8,201,000 population live in areas which won’t be covered by the first phase of the Night Tube service.

The average house price in the London boroughs which will benefit from the time savings that can be made from the new Night Tube service is £494,000. This is in comparison to an average house price of £285,000 in the areas the service doesn’t run to.

The populations of boroughs including Camden, Wandsworth and Islington, where average house prices range from £530,000 – £675,000, will benefit from an average 20 minute saving on their night time journeys, unlike boroughs such as Havering, where the average house price is £250,000.

Of course this might be a bit of a chicken and egg situation. If a Tube line runs through central London, then the stations on that line become desirable to live near and therefore house prices go up.

The greatest concern is that not everyone will know the finer details of the Tube’s reduced service during the new night time hours. So travellers need to make sure they have all the information they need for their journey before setting off. Live updates will also become especially important. After all, you don’t want to catch the Night Service home only to find it’s not stopping at your home station.

The best way to be prepared for the Night Tube is with Tube Map which features live departures, real-time routing and will include a new feature for the Night Tube once the service is launched. Tube Map is available on iOS and Android.

The Night Tube is due to launch in the Autumn with as yet no specific date confirmed. It will run on Friday and Saturday nights. For more details visit TfL’s Night Tube page.
