This year’s summer Bank Holiday falls on Monday 29th August and is the last UK Bank Holiday until Christmas (which scarily is only 17 weeks away!). Unfortunately our Summer Bank Holidays are famous for their unpredictable weather and whilst we cross our fingers for sunshine, we’ve found a range of fun things to do in London so you can plan ahead whatever the weather.
Listed as the number one “Top Attraction” in London according to TripAdvisor, The British Museum is a great choice if this weekend’s weather is a little grim. The museum includes over 8 million items and artefacts from over 2 million years of human history.
Opening times and prices: On Friday evening the Museum is open until 8.30pm and then 10am-5.30pm Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. General admission is free with exhibition prices around £10-£20 and London Passes are accepted.
This weekend the Notting Hill Carnival returns to London W11. Known for being the biggest street festival in Europe, the Notting Hill Carnival takes over West London for two days of dancing, music and celebrations. If you’re a Tube Map user the nearest stations to the carnival are Notting Hill Gate, Holland Park and Ladbroke Grove.
Opening times and prices: Completely free to attend and running from around 10am to 8.30pm on Sunday and Monday.
Did you know that some of the best things to see in London all sit along a bus route? That’s right! If you’re looking for things to do in London this Bank Holiday weekend get on the number 11 bus. Starting at Fulham Town Hall and finishing at Liverpool Street Station the 11 passes Big Ben, Westminster Cathedral, Parliament, Trafalgar Square, The London Eye AND St. Paul’s Cathedral. Hop on and get your camera at the ready…
Opening times and prices: The number 11 runs every 5-10 minutes at peak time and for just £1.50 you can buy an Adult single ticket with under 11s travelling for free. Download our Bus Times London app to check when the next bus is due.
London Bridge Station is the closest point to three of the most popular tourist attractions in London. HMS Belfast – where you can climb aboard a WWII battleship, the London Bridge Experience – if you’re interested in exploring the bridge’s hidden underground tombs and the Tower Bridge Exhibition – to stand 42m above the river on a glass walkway, are all within walking distance. So, if you’re making a day of visiting tourist attractions head to London Bridge Station.
Opening times and prices: HMS Belfast is open from 10am-6pm, as is The London Bridge Experience apart from on Bank Holiday Monday when it opens 10.30am-5pm. The Tower Bridge Experience opens 10am-5.30pm. Prices vary from £9-£27 per attraction for adults and London Passes are accepted.
Exploring the capital city by boat gives you the chance to see some of the oldest and most iconic landmarks in London. Most London boat cruises sail past The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and The London Eye creating many amazing photo opportunities along the way.
Opening times and prices: Most cruises run frequently from around 10am every day. Prices start from around £9 for a child and £18 for an adult and London Passes are accepted on selected operators.
