Tomorrow (Sep 18th) marks the start of the Rugby World Cup with matches in Twickenham, Olympic Park, Milton Keynes, Cardiff, Exeter, Newcastle, Manchester and Gloucester. The event runs until Saturday 31st October with 17 matches taking place in the London area alone. The very first match of the Cup starts at 8pm tomorrow at Twickenham.
Travel Tips
- Plan your journey there AND back. Trains will be especially tricky in the evenings as people hurry to catch the last one home, so be sure to give yourself plenty of travel time.
- Not spectating? Avoid the stadiums and surrounding areas if you can. Public transport and roads will be incredibly busy before and after the matches, so a journey that might seem 10 minutes longer will probably be quicker on the day.
- Lots of train stations will have plans in place for coping with the extra crowds. Visit your local station ahead of the big day and look for posters relating to the event or talk to station staff.
- Look at your transport alternatives. Buses might actually be better for you on the day, especially if they run later than the trains.
- Follow people like National Rail on Twitter. Twitter can be very useful for getting up-to-the-minute updates and might help to avoid delays or know when something’s changed. (And don’t forget the Twitter tab in your Mapway apps!)
- Apps are your friends. myTrains, Tube Map and London Bus are all going to be really useful during the World Cup.
