Update 25/02/2016: The offer is back! MasterCard customers can travel free on the Tube for the next three Mondays, February 29th, March 8th and March 15th. To take full advantage of “Fare Free Mondays” make sure your MasterCard is added to your Apple Pay wallet on an iOS device.
What’s the best kind of publicity stunt? That’s right, the one that gives you stuff for free, especially something that can be pretty expensive. The offer is available to anyone who uses Apple Pay and has a Mastercard. If you have a Mastercard and don’t use it very often then it might be worth dusting it off and adding to Apple Pay just for this. Link the Mastercard to Apple Pay and once done, use it to tap in like you would an Oyster card. Your fare will then be refunded by Apple and Mastercard within 28 days.
The offer starts today and will run every Monday until December 14th. That’s a potential 4 days of free travel on any London transport you fancy, even the Emirates Air Line! There is a maximum cost of £27.90 but that should be more than enough, even for those coming from the furthest of Zones. You can read the full Ts and Cs on
Mastercard’s website.
This special event is an example of TfL’s continued support of Apple Pay and will most likely encourage an uplift in its usage on the lead up towards Christmas. TfL was one of the first to support the new technology when it launched
back in July and Apple Pay transactions now contribute to the large number of contactless payments taking place on the TfL network.
