Back to blog london-tube The Night Tube has a start date… sort of. While Transport for London hasn’t officially announced a date, it is believed that they will push ahead and start rolling out the Night Tube service in August. It is thought that the Victoria and Jubilee Lines will be the first parts of the London Underground to run, followed by the Central, Northern and Piccadilly Lines in September. The Night Tube will run on Friday and Saturday nights, providing a 24 hour service. The launch date comes after a pay deal has been accepted by the two biggest London Underground unions, RMT (Drivers and Station) and ASLEF. This was the first positive thing to happen in months. It got everyone talking about the Night Tube again and it seemed like the end might finally be in sight. But we’re not out of the woods yet because the TSSA union and Unite still haven’t accepted their offers. It was also announced last week that drivers for the Piccadilly Line were set to go on strike. This will start 9pm March 23rd and end 8:59pm the next day. The strike has been called over industrial problems on the line and claims that safety issues are still not being addressed. If the suggested plans for the Night Tube are true however, then the Piccadilly Line won’t be joining the Night service until September anyway. Now that TfL has agreements from the larger unions this could mean they’re fairly confident to push ahead with plans for the Victoria and Jubilee lines, with the hope that everything else can be signed off before the Summer. A Transport for London spokesman said,

“No date has yet been agreed for the launch of the night Tube, but we are working hard to deliver it for London as quickly as possible.”
